2nd Grade Doodle Trees

2nd Grade Doodle Trees

2nd graders discussed the difference between realistic artwork and abstract artwork. Students were given the task to create "doodle" trees out of lines and shapes, that were abstract... the opposite of a realistic tree that we would see outside. Students drew with pencils, outlined with Sharpie markers, and painted in the doodle trees using watercolor paints. Students worked on blending warm colors in the trees, to resemble fall colors. Cool colors of chalk pastels were overlapped and blended in the background. Students worked on the following learning targets for this lesson:
- I can design and draw trees that are abstract.
- I can show the difference between warm and cool colors.
- I can overlap and blend colors together.
